The Delmas Project will involve establishing a cement grinding plant in Delmas, Mpumalanga closer to the markets in Gauteng. Approximately 50% of the clinker produced in Aganang will be transferred to Delmas for further processing, including using fly ash produced at the fly ash classification plant located at Kendal Power Station, as an extender to produce the final cement. It is estimated that the Delmas mill will produce 1.2 million tons of cement per annum once in full production. The plant is well positioned to supply the markets located in the regions of eastern Gauteng, Mpumalanga, northern KwaZulu-Natal, south-eastern and central Limpopo, and is close to the source of the fly ash at Kendal Power Station, located approximately 35km to the west. The primary driver for the establishment of the mill in Delmas is savings in logistics and the proximity to fly ash.
The Delmas Project will be accessed directly from the R50 which is a regional road in a relatively good condition. The project is approximately 50km away from central Gauteng with good access roads, namely the N12 highway 10km to the north. Initial traffic assessments indicate that the Delmas milling operation will have little impact on the R50. The milling plant will be located on the property described as the Remaining Extent of Portion 22 of the Farm Witklip No. 232. The property is 1,560m above mean sea level (mamsl), flat, and measures 76.9ha in size, which provides ample space for development of the cement grinding and milling plant.
