Sephaku Ash came into being as a result of Sephaku Cement successfully securing a nine year contract with Eskom to acquire and remove waste ash from the coal burning process at Kendal Power Station. The ash produced from this plant will be utilised as a cement extender at the Delmas milling plant to produce cement. The classification plant, which was commissioned in September 2009, has the capacity to produce up to 800,000tpa. Fly ash is being sold as “classified” (i.e. high quality fine fraction fly ash) or “unclassified” i.e. non-processed, to other customers in the broader retail cement market . Sephaku Ash’s two products are branded as HardAsh and SmartAsh for the unclassified and classified products respectively.
Sephaku Ash’s plant is located on the property of Eskom's Kendal Power Station, which is situated in the Mpumalanga Province in South Africa. The ash project was successfully commissioned at the end of September 2009, and is fully operational.. Kendal is situated on the Kendal/ Balmoral road (R545) off the N12 freeway.
